Nawattaphume International School Lampang
Montessori nursery and kindergarten. International primary school.
Nawattaphume School - Primary Section
Our international primary school in Lampang follows the well-respected British
system national curriculum. English is the language of the classroom for all
subjects and students are taught by native English speaking teachers. Students
are also taught Thai and Thai culture by a Thai teacher. Although this is an
international school, all of the students in the primary section have at least one
Thai parent and students are expected to take an interest in Thailand, the Thai
language and Thai culture.
The British curriculum primary education program is centred around the core subjects
of maths and English, and all students take at least one period each school day for
each of these subjects. Students also take at least one class of Thai and Thai culture
each school day. In addition, students study peripheral subjects: science, art,
humanities, and music. One morning each week all students participate in
physical education. Students receive homework on Monday to Thursday for the
core subjects, science and humanities. Homework is carefully monitored and
students are expected to complete the homework with dilligence and care. After
school, a free homework club is available where members of staff make
themselves available to help children complete their homework.
The school day lasts from 9am - when the students gather for roll call and
to sing the Thai national anthem, and ends at 4pm when the students from each year gather in their homerooms with their homeroom teacher to be assigned homework for
that evening. The students have a one hour lunch break when they eat lunch in the canteen and also a morning and afternoon break when healthy snacks and milk is provided.
Evaluation
According to the British national curriculum strategy, students are primary school are tested for evaluation purposes at two stages named Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. Key Stage One tests the students in the core subjects at the age of seven, or at the end of year 2. Key Stage Two tests the students at the age of eleven, or at the end of year 6. After your child has taken the key stage 1 reading, writing and maths tests, their marks are then compared to the level thresholds (the minimum mark required to gain each level) to see what level they have achieved. Your child’s teacher uses the outcome of the tests and tasks to make their final assessment. The levels are W (Working towards a level 1), 1, 2C, 2B, 2A, 3 and 4 or above. These individual test results are not reported in isolation but are used to inform the teacher assessment level. The majority of children at the end of key stage 1 will reach level 2 (2C, 2B, 2A).
